Who runs this site
LifeUKPractice is an independent study resource. We are not the Home Office, not GOV.UK, and not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any government body. We do not administer the test, we cannot book it for you, and we cannot influence your result. The site is part of a small family of free, no-nonsense resources that includes Retirement Expert and Law Reporter, built on one idea: the practice you need to prepare for a life-changing test should not sit behind a paywall or an email gate.
Everything here — the 495 practice questions, the 20 full-length mock tests, and the 10 chapter revision quizzes — is free to use, with no signup and no credit card.
Our questions are original
The real Life in the UK Test is drawn from a confidential question bank that is not published, and the official handbook, Life in the United Kingdom: A Guide for New Residents, is Crown copyright. So we do not — and cannot honestly — reproduce the real test questions, and we never copy another site's question bank. Every question on LifeUKPractice is written from scratch to test the same underlying facts the handbook covers: British values, history, government, the law, geography, culture and everyday life. Scoring well here is strong evidence that you know the syllabus, not a preview of the exact wording you will meet on test day.
How our practice questions are written
Each question is written to the topic areas of the official handbook and grouped two ways: into 20 full-length mock tests that mirror the real exam's 24-question, 75% shape, and into 10 chapter quizzes for revising one subject at a time. Before a question is published we check it three ways:
- The fact is checked against the handbook syllabus and, for dates, names, institutions and current rules, against authoritative references such as GOV.UK — so every answer reflects the material the test is actually based on.
- Exactly one answer is defensibly correct, and the three distractors are plausible — near-miss dates, neighbouring monarchs, the wrong nation — because that is how the real test separates people who have learned the detail from those who half-remember it.
- Every question ships with a written explanation that teaches the fact and its context, so a wrong answer becomes something you have actually learned rather than just a mark against you.
Where the government has proposed changes to the test or to settlement and citizenship rules, we describe the current position and flag that a change is pending — and we point you to GOV.UK for the authoritative, up-to-date position rather than guessing at what has not yet come into force.
What we are not
To be completely clear: LifeUKPractice is not a government service. You cannot book the real test, pay the £50 fee, or receive your unique reference number through us — all of that happens on the official GOV.UK Life in the UK Test service. If any fact on this site ever conflicts with GOV.UK, trust GOV.UK and tell us so we can fix it.
Corrections policy
Facts and rules change, and we would rather hear about an error twice than miss it once. If you spot anything wrong or out of date — a question, an explanation, a fee, a broken link — email hello@lifeukpractice.co.uk or use the contact page, and include the page URL. We review every report, correct confirmed errors, and update the page.
